15. Vallis

By Anthony Rogers

Oak

£650

After training and working as an archaeologist for several years, Anthony undertook art studies in Bath. He is based in Frome and works predominantly with wood. He has produced many large scale sculptures for exhibitions and public art projects. He also takes smaller garden-size commissions, including carving trees in situ. The oak for his carvings in this trail came from Longleat.

In their own words ...

Anthony has created sculptures Boundary (2), Frond (11) and Vallis (15).

My carvings have an organic quality, as they reflect the curving elegant forms of nature itself. All my work in this trail are carved from oak from the Longleat Estate.

After training originally as an archaeologist at Cardiff University and working in the field for several years, I undertook art studies at Bath College in the mid 1990s.

I have produced a great many large scale sculptures for exhibitions and public art projects around the UK and abroad. I also take smaller garden-size commissions, including carving trees in situ.

In addition to many commissioned sculptures, I make sculpted seats and tables for public and privates spaces. My sculptures and seating can be seen all over the UK, including the Isle of Mull. I have taken part in numerous exhibitions, such as at Westonbirt Arboretum, Lacock Abbey and the Bishop’s Palace in Wells.
